Scope and Content
The Donald Schmutz Collection contains Boy Scouts of America correspondences, publications, and L.D.S. Boy Scout publications. Also included are business, legal documents, information about the Angora Goats business and ledgers, correspondence, genealogy related items, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and personal diaries dating from 1914-1978.

Biographical Information
Donald Clarence "Dutch" Schmutz was born on October 6, 1889, in New Harmony, Utah. The second of eight children to Swiss immigrants Gottleib and Amelia Schmutz. Donald spent his early years in and around New Harmony. He married Amber Timothy on May 12, 1916. Donald was called to serve in the Swiss and German mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1920-1922.
He served in various community programs and businesses. Some including the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Buffalo award in 1970's. He also served on the North Arizona District 1 Grazing Board, he and his brothers started the Schmutz Brothers Inc., and started a business of raising Angora Goats which led to the Southern Utah Goat Association. This business lasted into the 1930s.
Around 1935, Dutch and his family moved to St. George, Utah. After Amber passed away in 1959, Dutch married Gwendolyn Bryner in 1961. He passed away in 1983, and is buried in St. George Utah.
