Scope and Content

The Parley and Mabel Collection contains programs, publications, articles, and memorabilia the Dalley's collected over their life span. The shells and minerals donated by Parley Dalley have been removed from the manuscript collection and are currently being housed by the geology department.

Biographical Information

Parley Dalley was born in Summit, Utah, November 15, 1886. He graduated from the Branch Normal School in 1905 and went on to receive his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1909 and his M.S. in Chemistry from the University of California in 1925. He was a science instructor at the Branch Normal School from 1909 to 1913 and continued to teach at the Branch Agricultural College as the head of the Physical Science Department. I addition, Parley Dalley served as Cedar City Mayor from 1922-1923 and other city council positions. Mabel Naegle Dalley was Parley's wife. She was born in New Harmony, Utah on February 28, 1886. She graduated from the B.N.S. in 1905. She taught public school at Pine Valley and Price. She received a normal certificate after completing requirements at the University of Utah in 1908; in addition, she received a special certificate for art. She taught at the L.D.S. Academy in St. Johns, Arizona. Parley and Mabel were married September 1, 1910. They traveled the United States when possible in order that Parley would be more familiar with the geology of the region. Mabel was active in civic and social societies.

Separated Materials

When items were donated, items and publications relating to University and local history were removed from collection. When removed, notes were handwritten on items identifying they were donated by Parley and Mabel. Where possible items have been returned to collection as they were found.
