Biographical / Historical

The Sons of the Utah Pioneers, Cedar City Chapter was created when LDS Institute Director Gustave Larson announced in the Iron County Newspaper that a meeting for the organization of a local chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers would be held in the Publish Safety building in Cedar City, Utah on Sunday November 24, 1946. It was stated that the organization was upon the urgent invitation of the President of the State Chapter and asked all men whose ancestors arrived in Utah before the advent of the railroad in 1869 attend the meeting and participate in the organization of the new chapter. It is unclear how many men participated in the meeting, however, in Chapter held its first Summer Outing at Duck Cree in 1947. After that event the Chapter was involved in several community events and service projects. As well as providing community education days and lectures.

Today the Cedar City Chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers holds monthly activities, including lectures, hikes, social events, newsletters and other public service opportunities.
