Biographical Information

Growing up in Loa, Utah, Anne Okerlund Leavitt came to the Branch Agricultural College in 1949, where she was involved in the language arts and theatre. A year later she married Dixie Leavitt. Together, they had six sons and started and insurance business that has become one of country's largest privately owned brokerages.

During her life, Anne has been involved with the Utah Endowment for the Humanities, and the Utah Shakespeare Festival, as well as other institutions. She returned to school in 1978, graduating with honors with a degree in English and Spanish.

To honor Southern Utah's Centennial anniversary in 1997, Anne published a book entitled Southern Utah University: the first hundred years, a heritage history. In this book she chronicled the University's history.

Since the publication of her book, both Anne and Dixie have helped to shape the future of SUU. In 2018, Anne was invited to be the keynote speaker for the 2018 Commencement exercises, and later that year a new business building was opened bearing Dixie's name.

Anne and Dixie's family now includes over 38 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
