Biographical Information

Born in 1928. V. Lee Oertle was an amateur historian and writer. Oretle spent his lifetime researching the surrounding events and members of the ill-fated California-bound emigrants who were massacred at Mountain Meadows in 1857. He felt a commitment to historical accuracy and spent much of his adult life tracking down facts versus rumor. The results of his research efforts have been donated to the Matheson Special Collections at Southern Utah University.
