Cedar City Women's Club Collection

The Women’s Club was originally started in 1904 by a small group of Cedar City Women interested in embroidery and cooking. In 1909, a permanent organization was established under the Branch Normal Schools Domestic Science Department. Now called “The Domestic Science and Art Class”, the school’s department was to teach club members about various forms of housekeeping, and serve as a liaison with the domestic science department at the Agricultural College in Logan, Utah.

1912, brought another change when the club joined the State Federation of Women’s Clubs. The club continued its ties to the Branch Normal, later the Branch Agricultural College, holding joint meetings with the students, and using the school’s facilities. The club continued to grow and became involved in many civic and social movements. Including, improving local sanitation and healthcare. The club was officially disbanded in 1941.
