Anna Seaman Collection
Scope and Content
This collection contains biographies, histories, printed materials, photographs, maps, and other miscellaneous materials collected by or written by Mrs. Seaman on communities in her native southern Utah. Some items are individual, but many were also kept in scrapbooks which are included in the collection. Many photographs of Orderville, Kane County, Utah, are rare and may be one of a kind. Wherever possible, these were scanned and are available online. However, some may be viewed only in the Sherratt Library Special Collections.

Biographical Information
Anna Porter Seaman was born in Orderville, Kane County, Utah. She finished her public education at the Branch Agricultural School in Cedar City, Iron County, Utah and then attended Brigham Young University for five quarters. She worked at Eureka Banking Company in the Tintic Mining District for eight years, and then worked as a clerk-stenographer for the Dixie National Forest and the US Forest Service. She married Frank W. Seaman on October 14, 1938. He was a widower with a large family and was preparing to retire from thirty years service as a Forest Ranger. They made their home in Cedar City. Anna collected both family and community history, especially of her native town, Orderville. She and Frank wrote "Biography of Frank W. Seaman, and she wrote histories of her mother, Martha Heaton Porter, and her father, Francis Alvin Porter. Frank died July 27, 1963, and Anna died November 10, 1994.

The collection is organized into five subgroups: I. Documents; II. Magazine and Newspaper Articles; III. Photographs and Maps; IV. Scrapbooks; V. General. Within each sub-group, the materials are divided by either location or subject.

Processing Information
This finding aid was created by the Special Collections Staff, Gerald R. Sherratt Library. If print, oversize or other materials have been removed to be stored separately it will be noted. This collection was reprocessed on 11/04/2024. ON this date, it was discovered that Box 3, specifically designated as a scrapbook of Kate County was not on the shelf with the other boxes in the collection. After a brief search it was established that the box with its scrapbook can not be found.
