General
This report summarized results of paleo-environmental research conducted in northeastern Nevada and adjacent Utah, sponsored in part by the US Bureau of Land Management, Elko District Office. The work involves analysis of ancient plant remains retrieved from fossil packrat middens in the region, to characterize the vegetation history of the region during roughly the last 50,000 years, encompassing the middle and late Wisconsin glacial period and the subsequent Holocene (modern) climatic epoch. The purposes of the research were twofold: first, to develop and understanding of long-term vegetation change in response to climate change during and science the last glacial period; and second, to provide environmental context for placing patterns of prehistoric human adaptations as reflected in the archaeological record.
