Material in the Luella A. Dalton collection contains the manuscripts and notes for her book History of the Iron County Mission and Parowan, the Mother Town, as well as personal documents and notes relating to her personal and family life.

Biographical Information

Luella Adams Dalton was a native of Parowan, Utah, and the founder and first president of the Elizabeth Camp, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. As DUP president, Mrs. Dalton worked to collect pioneer stories of Parowan and Iron County, a project which continued for over forty years.

During the Depression, Mrs. Dalton worked on the WPA project of the Utah State Historical Society, collecting historical information and copying old records at the Iron County Court House. She was Utah Mother of the Year in 1956. Her collection of historical stories was compiled and published about 1962 as History of the Iron County Mission and Parowan, The Mother Town.

This Collection is separated into three series: I. Manuscripts, II. Subject Files, and III. Personal. The series of 2. Subject Files is then divided into twelve subseries, and 3. Personal is divided into four subseries. 1. Manuscripts

Accession Information

Donated by Luella Adams Dalton. Additional items were donated by her grandchildren in 2025.

Separated Materials

The following books were removed from the collection in 2025. This was due to the fact that there were other copies of the items already existing in the cataloged collection and university archives.
