This collection contains personal papers, programs, articles and memorabilia of Mayhew H. Dalley and his son M. Hillman Dalley. The collection contains the Roll Book of Cedar City District School Number 1, BAC and CSU items including various musical and drama programs, also several Bacian issues.

Biographical Information
Mayhew Hillman Dalley was born on 28 November 1857, in Fort Johnson, Utah to William Dalley and Mandana Hillman. His family moved to Summit, Utah in 1858, and he spent the early years of his life. He graduated from Brigham Young Academy in 1881, and married Leonora Caroline Macfarlane on 22 March 1882, in St. George, Utah. They were the parents of eight children. Early in his career, Mayhew worked as an instructor for the Parowan Stake Academy and taught public school classes in the old Ward Hall in Cedar City. In 1886 he served a three-year Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints to Great Britian. Upon returning home he taught classed in the Parowan L.D.S. Academy. During this time, he became the first manager of the Cedar City Sheep Association and Superintendent of Sunday Schools. He then went on to own M.H. Dalley and Sons real estate firm. In addition, he held the following positions: County and City Surveyor, City Records, Library Board Secretary and Library Building Planning Commissioner, and board member for the Cedar City Investment Company. He died on 27 January 1934, at the age of 76 in Cedar City, Utah. at the age of 76. Mayhew Hillman Dalley, Jr. was born on 10 October 1885, in Cedar City, Utah, to Mayhew Hillman Dalley and Leonora Caroline Macfarlane. He married Zesta Sorenson on 13 April 1915. They were the parents two children. Hillman worked with his father, Mayhew in the family business and as a private surveyor and contract surveyor for the Federal Government. In 1921, he began working with Iron Country. During his life he as an active member of the Cedar City Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. He was one of the founding members of the Cedar City Master Singers. He was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, where he served in various leadership positions. On 14 August 1972, he passed away at home in Cedar City, Utah at the age of 86.

Accession Information:
Items were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Hillman Dalley in 1965. And by Hillman and Zesta Dalley's daughter in January 1981 In February of 1981, Phyills Wood donated the following items to the collection. The only documentation found is they are listed in the finding aid or written on folders as donated by her. On 9/30/2024 the following items were discovered in the collection's control file. The were added to the collection: M.H. Dalley and Son's flyer Bird's Eye View of Cedar City postcard The Rectigraph brochure. If print, oversize or other materials have been removed to be stored separately it will be noted.
Collection was reprocessed by Special Collections staff in 2025. At that time, newspapers we moved from regular boxes, unfolded and put into newspaper boxes. Newspapers in box AR13-AR33 will need to be put in new envelopes once they arrive.
