Josephine W. Isbell Collection
Scope and Content
Collection consists of personal papers, scrapbooks, and photographs collected by Mrs. Isbell. Personal papers of Mrs. Isbell related to family correspondence, travel and personal memorabilia, family history, and writings poems by Josephine and others. Some loose photos of family are located in the collection as well. However, the majority of photographs can be found in scrapbooks, such as images of Cedar City Buildings and Josephine's personal life. Other scapbooks contain newsclippings about local events, people and subjects. Such as religious figures, movie stars and local residents. Many photographs are of homes and buildings in Cedar City, Utah, and of Southern Paiute Indians. A few items of memorabilia from the Civil War were also donated by Mrs. Isbell's husband Jack Isbell. Genealogical information and Gregory family photographs were donated by relatives of Mrs. Isbell.

Biographical Information
Josephine Walker Isbell was born June 28, 1882 to Thomas and Charlotte Chatterley Walker. She married John C. Isbell (Jack) in Idaho. Josephine was one of the first nurses in the Cedar City area. She provided medical attention to much of the community starting in the early 1900's. She also collected items of historical significance and compiled scrapbooks of Cedar City history. Josephine W. Isbell died at the age of 85 in April 1968 in Cedar City, Utah.
