Scope and Content

This collection includes several histories written by Fay Frahske Burns about the area where she grew up, biographies of some of the early homesteaders, and land records. Mrs. Burns also gathered many early photographs of Lund and also assembled other early residents' memories of living there.

Biographical Information

Fay Frahske Burns was born November 14, 1924 in Milford, Utah. The second child of German immigrants, Oscar E. Frahske and Alma Hunt Frahske, she lived on the Escalante Desert and in nearby Lund, Utah. She graduated from the new Cedar High School in 1942, attended the Branch Agricultural College 1947-1949, and received her B.S. from College of St. Mary's of the Wasatch in 1954. She received her M.S.N. from the University of California at San Francisco and was an assistant professor of nursing at Southern Utah State College from 1974-1979. She married Merle E. Burns of Beryl, Utah, in October 1979. She currently resides in Kanarraville, Utah.

This collection contains two scrapbooks. The first, entitled "Life on the Escalante Desert;, is divided up into six groups subgroups: A. Introductory Matter, B. Photographs, C. Histories, D. Miscellaneous Land Records, E. Newspaper Articles, and F. Correspondence. The second, entitled "Memories of Lund, Utah,; is divided up into four subgroups: A. Miscellaneous Land Records, B. Photographs, C. History, and D. Appendix.
