Sherman Haight Collection
Scope and Contents
The Sherman Haight Collections contains family records. Included are over fifty photographs of both family members and community events, memorabilia for the Haight and Higbee families and their activities up to 1944. Of special interest is information on the Cedar City Chautauqua and World War II ration books for 1944.

Biographical / Historical
Sherman Haight was born on July 3, 1893, to David Snyder Haight and Charlotte Jane Higbee. He attended the Cedar City District School for grades 1 to 8, and then the Branch Normal School in Cedar City. He worked as a farmer. He did not marry, but devoted his life to family, church service and temple work. He died in the Cedar Care Center on December 11, 1986, at the age of 93.

This collection was reprocessed by Special Collections staff in 2023. On 9-13-2024 a small sheet of lyrics for a song called "What's the Matter with the Normal (BNS)" was found in the vertical University files, saying it was a gift of Sherman Haight, saved by Hattie Haight on 1996-02-03. The item was added to AR 70, BNS collection.
