Scope and Content

In this collection there is a variety of information Gwyn many have used in her teaching of elementary school and higher education classes. There is history of the area, the people of the area, and even a book one of her classes put together about the Iron County Settlement.

Biographical Information

Delila Gwyn Roueche was born August 29, 1907 in Millville, Utah, to John E. and Delia Graham Roueche. Gwyn grew up in the Cache County area of Utah. She graduated from South Cache High School as Valedictorian. Gwyn then went to Utah State University earning her BS degree in English and speech, also receiving a secondary teaching certificate. Later, going to the University of Utah, Gwyn earned her Master of Science and Doctor of Education Degrees. Gwyn married Wilford Clark September 23, 1927, in Logan, Utah. Mrs. Clark taught high school for 9 years in Idaho and Utah. She taught in an elementary school in Cedar City until she left there to teach at Southern Utah State College in 1950. Mrs. Clark taught until her retirement in 1976, having served several years as Chairman of the Department of Elementary Education. She took several years absence from her teaching duties at the College to teach English for one year at a university in Japan, and two years at a university in Ethiopia. Former Southern Utah University President Gerald R. Sherratt, one of her students, said of Dr. Clark, "Standing only four feet, ten inches tall, Dr. Clark is so elfin that there might be many at the commencement who will fail to notice her in the graduation march, but in every other way she is a giant; a legendary teacher of extraordinary ability and commitment. Mrs. Clark died December 15, 1992. Clarks doctoral dissertation at the University of Utah in 1964 is titled, Teachers Use of Childrens Personal Contributions in Classroom discussions. It can be found in Special Collections of the Gerald R. Sherratt Library.
